Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This full semester class is designed to teach students the math skills they actually need in the real world. With 16 weeks of instruction, students will have ample time to learn and practice these important skills. In this class, we will cover a range of topics including understanding and creating budgets, reading and interpreting financial statements, calculating discounts and sales tax, determining interest rates and loan payments, and using basic statistics and probability for decision making. In addition, students will learn how to apply these concepts in everyday life and business situations. By the end of this class, students will have a solid foundation in consumer math and will be prepared to use these skills in their personal and professional lives.

Week 1: What money is and how currency works
Week 2: A brief history of money
Week 3: How money works in the public sector vs. private sector
Week 4: Taxes
Week 5: Currency Exchange Rates
Week 6: Bankruptcy and how to avoid it
Week 7:  Inflation and depreciation
Week 8: How to shop and save.
Week 9: Differences between Savings and Current accounts
Week 10: How interest works
Week 11: Credit and debit cards
Week 12: Credit ratings and how it affects you for life
Week 13: How to save and why this is important
Week 14: How to budget life
Week 15: Gambling Odds
Week 16: How to budget a holiday

For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but their budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower-income. Please message me with the course, dates and times you are interested in to learn more about the discounts I might be able to offer.

Please be aware I try to teach all of my classes to at least 3 students as I feel it provides a better teaching and learning experience. If the minimum amount of students is not reached 24 hours before the start of the course, students will be transferred to the next available section at a similar time.
