Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
In this class your student will receive one-on-one tutoring from the teacher who has information, experience, and loads of bad puns! As a Certified Life Science teacher and former 8th grade science teacher, I will be able to help your student in multiple areas including Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Astronomy, Biology, and more! This class is aimed to work with students who are between grades 6th-8th or 11-14 years old. Once you sign your learner up, expect a message from the teacher to discuss your student’s needs! Don’t see a time that works for your learner? Click on my profile to see availability and request a time! Specific topics I will have plenty of help and information for are: For Chemistry: Elements and Compounds - Identifying the difference and counting atoms. Endothermic and Exothermic experiments - How to identify and properties. The Periodic Table - Reading it and being able to use it. Properties and Changes in Matter - Understand all the different phases and characteristics. Reading Chemical Equations - Reactants, Products, Coefficients, Balancing Equations Structure of an Atom - Protons, Neutrons, Electrons, and Drawing Bohr Models. For Physics: Speed, Acceleration, and Velocity - Learn units, equations, and how to identify. Forms of energy - Energy transformations and how to identify. Newton’s Laws of Motion - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Laws of Motion. Calculating Forces - Learn terms and how to calculate net force. Potential and Kinetic energy - Learn how energy transforms, law of conservation of energy. For Earth Science: Plate Tectonics - How the plates move, continental drift theory Boundary Types - Convergent, Divergent, and Transform Landforms - Volcanoes, Mountains, Rift Valleys Earth’s Interior - Layers of the Earth How to Read Maps - Topographic Maps and Satellite Images For Astronomy: Star Cycle - Supernovas, Black Holes, etc. Planets - Order of Planets, what’s unique about them. Earth - Rotation, Revolution, and moon. Sun - Life Cycle of the sun, sun’s surface. For Biology: Environments - Different biomes and organisms Evolution - Adaptations, Speciation, and Darwinism. Food Webs/Chains - How species interact with each other in the food chains Interactions in Ecosystems - Parasitism, Mutualism, and Commensalism Trophic Levels/Energy Transformations - Producers, Consumers, and Decomposers. Organ Systems - Endocrine system, Digestive System, etc. Types of Cells - Differences between Plant and Animal Cells; what’s in them.
Learning Goals
Before the session, the teacher will contact the parent about the student's goals for tutoring. A plan will be made on specific learning goals for the student.

Hi there!
I am Ms. Walker and in my class I believe in teaching science to the interest of the learner! It’s all about creating a connection, establishing confidence, and getting creative when it comes to the various topics science has to offer!
I’ve found that one of the best ways to reach a student's curiosity when it comes to science is to use examples from their interests!
Video games? Check!
Sports? Check!
Cute kawaii art themes? Check!
I have a wide variety of ways to engage students while building lasting science knowledge!
MY BACKGROUND:
- Certified Life Science Teacher since 2019
- Taught 3 years in-person for middle school science
- Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Work as a team with parents to ensure success for their learner
- Hold connection-building and a positive mindset as top priorities in the classroom
I can’t wait to start working with your learner! For any questions that aren’t answered here, feel free to send me a message! (:
