Welcome to beginning private piano lessons! I am excited at the prospect of teaching your young musician! In this course, we will be learning the basics of piano playing. This includes proper posture, fingering positions, key identification, note names and values. We will also play a variety of games...
In this course, students will be able to: Identify Middle C Locate notes A, B, C, D, E, F, G on the keyboard Learn proper posture and finger placement Understand musical terminology Understand musical symbols Learn basic rhythms Learn notes on the staff Know the difference between their right and left hands Learn how to play basic songs
Homework Offered
The only homework for this course is practice. Progress is cumulative. Practicing for shorter time spans, more frequently, will allow you to build upon what you have learned. I know schedules get very busy. Only you will know what works best for your family!Assessments Offered
Students typically progress to new material when they show a basic understanding of the material taught and can play the current material without assistance and with few mistakes.Grades Offered
We will most likely be using the Alfred's Basic Piano Library - All In One Series, which can be found on Amazon. However, please wait until after our first class to purchase your book, so I recommend a book that I feel is most appropriate for your child. If you have had previous lessons, please bring some music that you have already worked on, so we can determine an appropriate book and starting point. If you have already purchased or are currently using a different book, please message me and we'll figure out how we want to proceed. Other materials needed for class: pencil scrunchie, hair tie or watch to help determine right from left (optional) sticker for marking Middle C overhead camera/phone mount (highly recommended as it allows me to see your student's hands)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
For young learners, I recommend that a parent or helper assist in the initial setup before class (identifying Middle C with a sticker, identifying right/left hands, camera placement if you have an overhead mount).

Hi, my name is Laura Key. Throughout my life, I have had a passion for music! Many of my earliest memories involve singing in the station wagon, listening to classical music on my Care Bear radio, dancing while my mom played Ta Ra Ra Boom De Ay...
