*Trial class coupon* $15 off your first private class: BJBSITUTOR15 ***If you do not see an available class section, please message me! I love working one-on-one with students, personalizing instruction, and getting to know/having fun with my students! I am only able to fit a small number of private classes into my schedule, but I would LOVE to meet and work with your learner if I am able to! Please send me a message, and I'd be happy to discuss our schedules and more class information. This class can be tailored to your needs, including the length of the class. If you are interested in a shorter or longer class time, just ask! In this private, ongoing class, I will meet with your learner to provide instruction and practice for specific reading and writing skills, tailored to each learner's skill level, needs, and interests. I love getting to know my students and using their interests to try to make our time together and the lesson(s) as fun as possible! With this ongoing class, we will plan to meet once weekly, but we can schedule as many meetings as you would like to and adjust our days/times as needed and available! If you would like to meet twice weekly, we will adjust our class meeting times/weekly price as needed. This ongoing class is a great option if you would like to meet once a week, or more than once, and have a consistent classroom for posts and communication throughout that time. *(I do offer a one-time private class option, so that is another choice available to you if you would rather set it up that way. My one-time class can also be scheduled over and over again as our schedules allow. The main difference in choosing this ongoing class is the ability to have a consistent classroom to use for communication, posts, and resources throughout our time together.) During our first class together, your child and I will get to know each other and see how my teaching styles and your child's learning styles work together. This can be used as a trial class, strictly a one-time class over a single, specific skill (example: one or two letters that your child is struggling with and can be taught in one class, if you request and send that information), or the first class of many together, if you choose! Regardless of which reason you are enrolling in this class, I am happy to meet your learner! I love to use songs, visuals, and lots of movement in my lessons if at all possible! I love to have fun and try to engage students' interests, so parent communication prior to class is something that will make our class time together the best experience possible for your learner. Upon enrollment, I will have a few questions about your learner's interests and which skills you are looking to work on. I am happy to do an informal assessment when we meet (and generally do anyway for the first few classes), but a general idea of what skills your learner may need help with is important for me to be able to plan accordingly for our first class and provide appropriate instruction. ***I am a flexible teacher, so I welcome last-minute enrollments! If you enroll in a private class within 24 hours of the class time, please know that I may or may not have time to prepare a specific assessment/lesson tailored to your learner for that first class. However, I have created several assessments and activities already and can likely make our first class just as productive and fun, regardless!*** During our first class together, your child and I will get to know each other and see how my teaching styles and your child's learning styles work together as we have our first class/lesson(s). I will use informal assessment in the form of games and other fun reading/writing activities (I try to make everything as fun as possible so that students do not realize I am "assessing" them) in order to get a better idea of your learner's reading/writing abilities and which areas are needing extra support. I generally assess for the first few classes as well as incorporate short lessons along with those, so even during the time I am assessing, students will be learning something! Please know that if I do not receive any information about your learner before class, our first class may be used strictly as a time to get to know each other and to begin to assess possible needs. I believe parents and teachers can make a great team, and communication is so important in a child's learning. I am grateful for your support! ***I am not a reading specialist or diagnostician. However, I am a certified teacher with classroom experience and a passion for making learning fun and adapted to students' interests and abilities! Some skills that may be included in our lesson together (depending on what you are requesting): *Letter Recognition *Letter Sounds *Handwriting *Blending (ability to hear sounds and put them together--"d-o-g">"dog") *Reading CVC words, CVCe words, CVVC words, and more! *Learning to read/write/spell sight words *Using sight word knowledge and letter-sound knowledge to read sentences *Segmenting (hearing each individual sound in a spoken word--"dog">"d-o-g" or "castle">"c-a-s-l") *Practicing segmentation to write CVC words, CVCe words, CVVC words (and more!) *Using sight word knowledge and letter-sound knowledge to write sentences ***If we are practicing writing sentences, we will also learn and practice correct sentence structure. *Digraphs/Vowel Teams and Other Reading/Writing Strategies (ex: sh, th, ch, oo, ee, ck, ow, silent e, ou, ow, etc.) *Spelling strategies (Words with: ing, silent e, oo, ee, ow, soft c, ai, ed, bossy r, etc.) *Reading/Writing/Spelling strategies based on grade level/needs *Reading Fluency * ESL (English as a Second Language)-I do have experience in teaching English language learners, through my time as a public school teacher and online through VIPkid, before joining the Outschool community.
