This course will focus on speaking and listening comprehension. Students will also learn the Spanish alphabet as they proceed through the lessons. I have taught ESL with VIPKid for over two years, using complete immersion (I have just started learning Mandarin, so have worked the majority of my time there understanding nothing). When the child thinks the teacher does not understand English, then they will strive to use what Spanish they know to communicate. I have created a fun curriculum...
The learning goals will be determined once I have had a chance to evaluate where your child is.
I learned Spanish through immersion, and I love the immersion process. I have also taught ESL through immersion online for more than two years.
I will provide feedback after the lesson (3-5 sentences) about what they did well and what they can practice. If you feel comfortable practicing with them at home, let me know. If not, they can watch the last 2-3 minutes of the class recording to review the vocabulary and sentences.
I may recommend some games, apps, or practices, depending on your child's level. Because I cater lessons to each child, I will let you know after the trial lesson if there are any specific materials you should have on hand. There is one book I like for the pictures and easy-to-read alphabet at the beginning. However, I may just scan the most important pages for you to print at home.
Because this is a 1-on-1 class, I will constantly be evaluating what they know well and what they can practice more. You will receive a short message after every lesson with their strengths and what they need to practice.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Feel free to sit in on the lessons and learn too! Especially if you have a younger learner (4-5 yrs old), keeping them focused is a big help! You may be tempted to help them out if you know some Spanish and translate, but they can do it themselves. Let them figure it out on their own as that is more effective.
