Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Beginner Level
Getting Started with Telling Time is a beginner-level course designed to help students learn the basics of telling time. This class is full of lessons, consisting of 2-3 lessons per day, spread over the course of four days (Students have access to all material for 30 days after the last scheduled day of class, so if more time is needed this is not a problem as there is a lot of material in this course). This class was originally a 4 week class, but I have condensed it to 1 week to give families the option to move at a faster pace.
Students will receive hands-on instruction and practice in a fun and engaging environment, helping them to develop the skills they need to read and understand time on a clock. Each daily session will cover a different aspect of telling time, building on what students have learned in previous weeks. Topics will include: Understanding the hour hand and minute hand on a clock, identifying hours on a clock and matching them to times of day, reading time to the nearest hour and half hour, understanding the concept of a minute and reading time to the nearest 5 minute
Each day you will receive a handout that needs to be printed prior to class, so that they class can be interactive and beneficial to learning. Your child will also need a small whiteboard and a whiteboard marker for class practice. Each video is teacher created and I am available to answer questions via email where your child can send a video of their work or send a snapshot. It is their choice on how much or how little interaction they would prefer.

Day 1: What is a clock? Introduction to hours, minutes, seconds.
Day 2: Telling time to the nearest hour and half hour
Day 3: Telling time to the nearest minute
Day 4: Elapsed time
Day 5: Assessment and extra material for continued practice

If you have any other questions please reach out to me and I will be happy to answer.

Welcome! My name is Debbie and I am a certified teacher with a Bachelors of Science in Education with a concentration in the visual arts. I also hold Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on math and science. I have been lucky enough throughout my career to have taught grades K through 6 and be a math and reading interventionist. Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach and I love thinking of creative ways to get students to love it too and gain confidence.

I primarily teach math classes most popular class is my 1:1 math tutoring class, but I have expanded my classes recently to include art classes as well as thematic science classes for first, second, third and fourth grades.
