In this class, students will be assessed to show what they know when it comes to reading books, the alphabet (recognizing upper- and lower-case letters independently), writing, letter sounds, and sight words using the Dolch Sight Words. The class will cover topics from vowels to word families (CVC, CVVC, CVCV), to digraphs, sight words by flashcard, sight word books/worksheets, and games that will reinforce the skills the student is learning. The learning goal for the student is to improve upon assessment scores during this class. The student will learn about vowels and their various sounds, they will learn sight words and apply them to independent writing and writing on the Sight Word Reader worksheets. The overall goal for this class is to provide skills to the student to have them become successful in reading.
