US Grade 3 - 6
In this fun and engaging Reader's Theatre class, we will share the reading of BOOK TWO of this magical series, adapted for Reader's Theatre, Chapter One. In this script, it really is the worst day ever and it's his birthday! Key Outcomes of the Class: The focus of my class is self confidence, risk taking and encouragement. If you have a reluctant reader, a shy or anxious child, this is a safe place for them to be able to express themselves through a script. If you have a child who loves to try different vocal choices, this is the perfect place to try them out! How will the class be taught: Students will take turns reading characters from a script. They will have a chance to read different characters each class. 💥 We will read the lines together to build trust and confidence and then assign parts. 💥 Create fun characters using voices and emotion 💥 Increase our reading fluence 💥 Gain self confidence 💥 Practice speaking in public What does Teacher Debbie bring to the class: As a literature and drama fan, I bring oodles of enthusiasm to class. I am dramatic by nature and this naturally lends itself to a fun and engaging class. As a mother of special needs children, I bring patience and understanding. I create relationships with my students nurturing a lifelong passion for reading and creative thinking. If any child is feeling shy or unsure, I will read the lines with them. We will support each other until everyone is comfortable to read independently. There is no need for memorization. Scripts will be provided before class. Costumes, props and make-up are a welcome addition but not a requirement. My Teaching Philosophy: Students learn best when they are invested. By creating a safe and fun environment, students will feel safe to explore their creativity and characters. I will always ask open ended questions to have students think about themes, characters and other drama elements. P.S. If this class is not available at the time you were hoping for or for the age group you needed, Feel free to put in a request that best suits your needs and I will do my best to accommodate your family.
Learning Goals
⚡️Reader's Theatre is cooperative, and provides opportunities to learn with support.
⚡️It's creative and encourages language experimentation and risk-taking. It provides natural occasions for practice and enables children to build a repertoire of reading strategies with a purpose.
⚡️Apart from the fun aspect, there are many opportunities for the emergent reader to become comfortable with reading a script.
⚡️The children will have fun listening to each other, reading together and celebrating their accomplishments.
⚡️Pacing, inflection, expression and fluency will all be practiced.
⚡️Through open discussion, students will learn thinking out of the box, improvisation and will use their imagination!
