Class Experience

This is a one-time private class that can be used as an introduction to singing for new students. I will:

(1) go over some mindsets about learning to sing;
(2) give a quick overview of the basic concepts I use to structure my lessons;
(3) exercise various muscles involved in speaking and singing;
(4) listen to a song cut chosen by the learner (please let me know the name of the song prior to the class);
(5) apply a singing tip to the song cut; and
(6) give general assessment and answer any questions regarding the lesson and learner's goals.

This class can also be a consultation to help new students choose which one of my ongoing classes to enroll in (shy, recreational, pro).

For recreational students ("So You Can Sing"), the learners usually choose the songs they want to sing each week, and I provide singing tips for them to apply to their songs. In general, the recreational singers that I teach listen to a lot of songs, and they really enjoy singing with karaoke tracks or with the recording artists.

For shy students ("So You Think You Can't Sing"), I first assess whether the student needs extra help with skills to gain confidence or if the student wants a more private space to learn and perform. The learners usually choose the songs they want to sing, and I provide singing tips for them to apply to their songs. I will usually spend a little more time on technique with shy students.

For pro students ("So You Think You Can Sing"), both learners and I choose songs, and the students learn more technique and performance skills. We will learn to sight read various audition cuts and learn how to sing various singing styles (music theatre, pop, rock, country, jazz, classical/legit). We will also develop the speaking voice and practice auditioning and performing skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a professional vocal coach with 25+ years of experience as a private voice teacher, audition coach, music director, and piano accompanist. I am based in New York City where I spend most of my time helping young aspiring athletes and artists pursue their musical dreams of performing on Broadway. With the wonderful technology of Zoom, I hope to serve a wider range of young artists who may be interested in pursuing a career in the performing arts.

Although I work primarily with young professionals, I also hope to serve learners whose goals are not necessarily to sing professionally. I hope to instill some of the love and joy of singing that I had growing up without the pressure of grades, perfection, and judges. I am excited to meet new aspiring artists whose musical dreams may simply be to learn a new song, record a song for a family member, sing karaoke with friends, or jam out alone with Spotify.

I have tried to list different levels of classes to meet the needs of a variety of learners. If you would like a customized class, please do not hesitate to contact me.
