This one-time class was created to suit the needs of families with charter school funds, but is open to anyone. ((24 hour notice and parent communication before class time is requested so that I may have time to prepare content for class.)) **Please reach-out with other scheduling needs, as I may be able to offer tutoring sessions outside of the sections listed** I am able to tailor lessons for your child in the following subject areas: sound and letter acquisition; CVC words, Blend,...
Students will enhance and grow their subject-specific skills, as well as hone their social skills. Learning goals depend on the current needs of the individual child, as agreed-upon parent and the teacher.
I have been a certified, lead Montessori teacher for 23 years and have provided dynamic learning experiences for hundreds of students in a variety of subject areas. I provide a lively learning environment full of songs, movement, frivolity and acceptance. I let all children know that mistakes are okay, and that we learn through them. I have always strived to help each child and parent that I encounter to feel good about and to value themselves.
Homework is not required, but if your child shows interest and excitement, you may practice what is presented, outside of class.
None required except for writing utensils and paper, and a whiteboard can be a bonus for language work. For sound or word-building work, some materials for at-home use can be purchased online or made. If you would like more information on these resources, let me know.
We will use informal assessment to gauge if they are confident in their knowledge of each set of week When they show mastery of one topic, they may move on to the next after consulting with their adult.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
As long as your child is interested in practicing their work, outside of class, do it as often as they would like and when they begin to lose interest, ask if they would like to be done for now. From classroom experience, I learned that if the child was practicing these skills during school, they may not want to practice while at home (and vice-versa.) The best advice for building skills is to follow the child and if they are showing excitement about something, feed that need.
