Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will be able to gain an introductory understanding of LGBTQ+ studies by learning about LGBTQ+ history, art, literature, and culture throughout history to present day. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of informational and literary texts within the LGBTQ+ studies genre by using details and examples from the texts and multimedia presentation.
I am a certified teacher for grades 6-12. I also am a LGBTQ+ Educational Consultant. I work to help teachers and school leaders create communities of care within our schools for LGBTQ+ youth. This is work that I am highly committed to and have worked with over the years. I am also a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself so this work is very personal to me. When I worked as a brick and mortar classroom teacher, I sponsored a GSA in a high school for 3 years. I received training from the GSA Network and continue to participate in advisor training through the GSA Network virtually. I am not a medical professional, or a counselor. This is an academic course for students to learn more about LGBTQ+ studies like history, art, literature, and culture.
Student engages in interactive games with questions regarding the texts and multimedia presentation in order to demonstrate their understanding.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This is a course centered around sensitive topics like gender and sexuality. Please ensure that you feel comfortable with your student learning more about the LGBTQ+ community and their history, art, literature, and culture.
