 Week 1
Lesson 1
1000-1200s
The end of the Viking age was when the Nordic countries became Christian. How did the world change politically and culturally, and why did people become Christian?
Lesson 2
What is happening in the Nordic Countries today?
The students bring in news from the Nordic countries to learn what is happening in the region today and see historical parallels.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
1300-1400s
During this time, the German Hanseatic League dominated trade in Europe, but the Nordic countries wanted to keep control and create the Kalmar Union. We will also talk about The Black Death.
Lesson 4
What is happening in the Nordic Countries today?

 Week 3
Lesson 5
1500-1700s
The Kalmar Union falls apart, leading to The Swedish Empire. We will also discuss the Reformation and how it influenced the Nordic countries.

 Week 4
Lesson 7
1700-1850s
The Swedish Empire collapsed, and Russia strengthened, influencing the Nordic countries. Napoleon changes the dynamic in the Nordic countries. Also, the beginning of industrialism

 Week 5
Lesson 9
1850-1920s
Horrible famine, poverty, and political and religious oppression in the Nordic countries lead to emigration to America. Socialism and labor unions change the Nordic countries. World War I brings about political tension and change. The women get the right to vote.

Lesson 11
1920-1970s
The depression and growing nationalism influence the whole of Europe. What happened to the Nordic countries during World War II? Sweden is the only country that Nazi Germany doesn't occupy. After the war, there were social changes and new immigration from all over the world.
