This class is centered around the student and whatever learning goal the student has for their one-on-one time. We can work on any English-related project including reading, fiction writing, essay writing, storytelling, generating ideas, creating outlines, reading comprehension tips, talking about specific books, etc. Class will most likely be discussion style with both teacher and student asking and responding to questions.
Ideally, the student or parent will notify me about the specific topic that they would like to cover prior to class so that everyone knows the class expectations and the goals of that specific one hour session.
I have an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults and I was a substitute teacher for three years. In addition to teaching on Outschool, I currently tutor college students (mostly regarding college essays). I have a passion for helping students in whatever area is needed. We are all different and sometimes we need personalized help. Often all it takes is to have someone listen to you and offer advice based on your specific needs.
Depending on the topic covered, the student will most likely leave class with steps and goals to help them complete their personal project (whether it is writing a story or reading a challenging book) outside of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
After our time together, the student should feel more confident and have a plan in place to achieve their overall goal.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
