Class Experience

Students who need a little more practice, or have gaps in their learning, will be meaningfully engaged during each tutoring session. The state standards for their grade will be taken into consideration when designing their tutoring program. Or, if the student has a plan and learning goals, we will work on helping the student reach those goals.

I specialize in helping students with autism, down syndrome, dyslexia, and various other learning disabilities in reading and math. I am also able to tutor gifted students in language arts up to the 12th grade (and college). I am most comfortable tutoring math up to 6th-grade and some of the 7th and 8th grades, depending on where the learning gap lies. I love science and history and just about any subject there is. I'm a life-long learner!

During the first tutoring session, I work hard to build a fun-loving relationship with your student. If your student isn't into fun, I can definitely accommodate that as well. I'm as flexible as a pretzel! As a mother of adult children with dyslexia, and adult adopted twins with autism and cognitive disabilities, I can assure you my flexibility meter runs high!

You may bring your own program with you to the tutoring session, your own homework you need help with, or just something you want to know more about. If you don't see a time that works, contact me so I can set up your own listing!

I am also available to teach life skills, social-emotional skills, leadership skills, and conversation skills as needed for children with special needs. Here are some examples of things we could work on:
Sharing
Self-Control
Manners/Politeness
Patience
Resilience
Responsibility
Self-reliance
Accountability
Perspective
And much more!

I am also an expert on homeschooling, having homeschooled my own children for more than 24 years. If you need someone to help you design a program, I am able to help you and your child develop a learning program that's right for them. I am familiar with and have experience with many modalities including Charlotte Mason, Classical, Trivium, A Beka, Bob Jones, Unschooling, Free Range, Child-Led, Alpha Omega, Veritas, Konos, Unit Studies, and more. I am happy to help you design a program for synchronous multi-level unit study learning as well.
