Don't see a time that works for you?
I tailor our one-on-one lessons to your musical level and interests. I will also encourage you to explore new genres and repertoire (English, French, German, Italian, and other world languages. You do not need to know these languages; I will work with you on the pronunciation and vocal technique). A typical lesson includes: * vocal/piano warm-ups: relaxation, warm-ups, breathing, breath control, and management. * repertoire: vocal/piano technique, diction, pitching, intonation,...
The goal of on-going lessons is to build on and work toward continual improvement with: * vocal/piano technique * repertoire * performance practice * practice routines * confidence More importantly, I want you to enjoy music and have fun!
I have a Ph.D. in Music and Voice Performance, Masters degrees in Voice Performance and English Literature, and ATCL and LTCL Voice diplomas from Trinity College, London. I have performed as a live and recording artist internationally. If you are familiar with Bollywood (Indian cinema), I have collaborated with A.R. Rahman, the Oscar-winning Indian film music composer of Slumdog Millionaire (2008); my voice features on several of his film soundtracks. With more than 20 years of experience teaching individuals and groups at the college, conservatory, and private studio levels, my students range from beginners to advanced levels. I teach all genres; however, I use the foundations of classical vocal technique because they ensure good posture, breathing, and vocal technique for life-long, healthy singing
To see continual improvement, set aside a fixed time for your daily practice, from half an hour to an hour, depending on your level. I will assign vocal exercises and music for you to work on each week.
I will assign songs and repertoire depending on your level of musicianship; I will share resources: PDFs of scores, URLs, tracks as required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each lesson I will assess your progress informally during the lesson; this may require you to reflect on your own practice during the week, so please keep a journal so we can talk about some of the questions or difficulties that arise during your daily rehearsals.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
