This class is student-centered and focuses on helping the learner with reading and writing skills and tasks. Typically if not given something specific, I will have reading and writing activities to include the following: Reading comprehension passages and questions Vocabulary Writing practice such as paragraph and essay writing Mechanics of Writing such as Sentence structure, proper punctuation and capitalization, and spelling Grammar such as adjectives, verbs, nouns, and more Feel free to message me about what your child needs. Please let me know ahead of time of any specific topic requests so that I can adequately prepare for the class. I can prepare specific materials to help with certain skills if I know what the student needs in advance. For example, if the learner primarily needs help with reading comprehension, please let me know and send me a message with any specific reading materials the student needs or is using (if applicable); if the learner needs help with writing a paragraph or having me go over an essay or piece of writing with them, please send me the piece of writing in advance (if it's already complete) so I can review it before class, then I will go over it in class with the student. I can also help the student get started on a piece of writing and then go through the process. This may take more than one session depending on the type and length of the writing. These are just a couple of examples, so please feel free to contact me with any questions! There will be discussion between the teacher and student as well as practical help and application. I also like to end each class with a game when time permits. I'm very good at helping kids feel comfortable learning, correcting in positive ways that leave them still feeling good about continuing with a positive attitude, praising them and pointing out their strengths, and guiding them through discovering answers and solutions on their own. I am also good at scaffolding instruction to give support as needed and then gradually taking that support away to let them eventually use skills independently. I can't wait to meet you!
