Lessons with specialized instruction to support students in advancing their skills at playing ukulele

Class experience

Students will have the opportunity to learn to play chords, recognize chord symbols, read tablature and notation, play melodic lines and accompany songs using strummed chords.
Sandra Girouard has been a teacher for over 30 years. She first became curious about the ukulele in 1997, after attending an Orff-Schulwerk conference and meeting music teachers from Hawaii. She came home, bought a soprano, concert, and baritone ukulele and never looked back. Ms. Sandra is a Level 3 JHUI certified teacher through the James Hill Ukulele Initiative (https://www.uketropolis.com/jhui). Ms. Sandra is a member of the Uke Heads project, and has provided recorded tracks (ukulele and vocals) that will be included in the self-titled album due out in 2024.

Ms. Sandra holds both a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Arts in Education.
 - a soprano (20 inches), concert (23 inches), tenor (26 inches), or baritone ukelele (30 inches).
 - a digital tuner (preferable) or access to the GuitarTuna app on a mobile device **other than** the one the student will use for the Zoom class.
In the event that the minimum enrollment for this class is not met, the teacher still plans to teach the class in the hopes of other learners joining. Parents, if you prefer that your learner ONLY work in a group and do not want them to be a single learner in class, please message the instructor to let her know.

PARENTS: It is key that the learner's instrument is in tune. The tuning of the instrument is fundamental to feedback to the student on the accuracy of their playing and consequently, their skill development. Parents should commit to supporting students in tuning the instrument until the students are old enough and skilled enough to be able to tune their instrument independently. Instruments should be checked regularly for tuning adjustments.
