Class Experience

Welcome to singing class!

This is the extended version of my 25 min private singing/voice lesson class. In this on-going private class I work with learners one on one, tailoring each lesson to meet their specific needs and musical interests. Starting with the basics and advancing as we go, we will cover topics such as breath support, intonation, head-chest register, mixed voice, mask placement, diction and vocal dynamics. We will start the lesson by warming up the voice using a variety of exercises such as sirens, trills, hums, solfege scales, pitch matching and tongue twisters. Each week we will work on a song of the students choice to apply the techniques learned. From my experience, students are most motivated to practice when they are singing music they enjoy! Throughout the class I will offer personalized feedback and guide students in finding ways to work through challenge areas of the voice. Due to the extended lesson time, in addition to vocal technique, I can also work with learner's on music theory and sight-singing skills. This is optional and we will use the book titled Sight-Singing Super Hero to build this skill. It is also optional to do combo lesson's of either Voice+Piano or Voice+Ukulele. For the piano portion, depending on the goals of the learner, we will work through piano theory books and/or learn chordings that they can play as they sing along. For the ukulele portion, we would focus mostly on chords to accompany the singing voice. I can help with song suggestions along the way and recommend the best songs to begin with on both instruments.

I have been teaching music for 20 years and I know most issues that arise for musicians and how to remedy them. I am also generous with positive feedback as I feel students strive in a supportive environment. Ultimately my goal is for each learner to feel comfortable and confident singing and playing the songs they love. No experience is necessary to begin 1:1 singing lessons. Just a love of music and a willingness to learn. All levels welcome.

Please Note-
Due to the inevitable sound delays, any backing tracks should be played on a separate device by the learner. A cappella also works great! Please consider having a song ready to sing for the first lesson.
