Students will learn correct piano technic, musicality, improvisation, and music theory including note reading, chords, dynamics, rhythms, and more.

Homework Offered
Improvement in playing the piano is largely dependent on the amount of quality practice that the individual student puts in.  I will teach learners how to effectively practice, but it will be up to them (with help from their adults) to set up a regular routine that allows for good, in-home practice.

Students will need a piano or keyboard (if using a keyboard, see below), books, a notebook for keeping track of assignments, pencil, and stickers (optional).

A beginning student would start with the Primer level using the Lesson, Theory, and Performance books.  As they progress, new books in the next level will need to be purchased.

If a student has taken piano lessons in the past and already has a series that they were using, I am more than happy to continue in those books until they are ready for a new level.  At that time, we can assess which series would be a better fit and adjust as needed.  

Other books may be required on an as needed basis.  After the primer level, I add "A Dozen A Day" as a warm up.

If using a keyboard, students will need one that has weighted keys (also known as touch sensitive) and is at least 61 keys.  A sustain pedal is helpful, but not necessary until level 1.  If you need help figuring out whether your keyboard will be appropriate or not, please let me know.
