One-On-One Piano Lessons
Class experience
This class will be piano lessons in the traditional sense, but with the benefits of virtual learning. I have taught piano for over 20 years to all ages and abilities both in-person and online. I'm very excited to bring this experience to the Outschool platform. We will utilize a piano method book series such as Piano Adventures or Alfred's as well as supplemental material. During each lesson, I will hear the student play the pieces they have practiced during the week, give them help and...
Students will learn correct piano technic, musicality, improvisation, and music theory including note reading, chords, dynamics, rhythms, and more.
Homework Offered
Improvement in playing the piano is largely dependent on the amount of quality practice that the individual student puts in. I will teach learners how to effectively practice, but it will be up to them (with help from their adults) to set up a regular routine that allows for good, in-home practice.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Students will need a piano or keyboard (if using a keyboard, see below), books, a notebook for keeping track of assignments, pencil, and stickers (optional). Students will be required to have a piano method book series. My preferred series is "Piano Adventures" by Faber. Here's a link to the full series on Sheet Music Plus: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/faber-piano-adventures-sheet-music/3001165 A beginning student would start with the Primer level using the Lesson, Theory, and Performance books. As they progress, new books in the next level will need to be purchased. If a student has taken piano lessons in the past and already has a series that they were using, I am more than happy to continue in those books until they are ready for a new level. At that time, we can assess which series would be a better fit and adjust as needed. Other books may be required on an as needed basis. After the primer level, I add "A Dozen A Day" as a warm up. https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/?aff_id=161435 (Check out this link to find the books you will need) If using a keyboard, students will need one that has weighted keys (also known as touch sensitive) and is at least 61 keys. A sustain pedal is helpful, but not necessary until level 1. If you need help figuring out whether your keyboard will be appropriate or not, please let me know.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I have played Piano, Cello, and French Horn for over 30 years and am actively involved in playing all three in various groups where I live. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Music Education...
