Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
This course is structured based on the child's strengths and weaknesses. Students will work on current phonic skills that they may be missing or need more practice on. We will also focus on applying those phonic skill to their reading comprehension and writing. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham and will use the approach of multi-sensory techniques for reading instruction. These research-based techniques include, tapping out words, textile tracing, and word mapping. Topics include all phonic spelling patterns in the English language (ex., -ai, -ee, -oa, -igh). We will focus on one sound, such as long e, and will cover all the spelling patterns associated with that sound (_y, -e, -ee, -ea), how to break apart words with those sounds to help decode the word, and how to use those sounds when writing. We will also be using decodable books based on the skills they've learned and will work on their comprehension strategies. Comprehension topics can include inferencing, predicting, determining importance, visualizing, questioning, and synthesizing. In order to cover all spelling patterns, we will start by assessing where the child is at and fill in the missing skills needed. This is a hands on interaction, students will be asked to participate and interact while learning through slides, discussion, and reading.
