Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 6
Does your child like engaging, interactive lessons? Do you want your child to have a caring teacher that is an experienced, reading and dyslexia specialist with a track record for success? Then this is the perfect class to give your child the help they need! Please check my credentials in my teacher expertise section. I will be the only teacher teaching on this account. Please ready my reviews! I have limited availability and many students I have been working with long term, so make sure to sign up quickly if a spot comes available.

I will support your child by using one-on-one research based intervention teaching strategies. I am a certified and trained Texas educator with over 23 years of experience, a Master's degree in education, and extensive credentials as a Dyslexia and Reading Specialist. I am also certified as a Gifted/Talented and ESL Educator. This class is perfect for regularly scheduled help. I have some students that work with me once weekly and others that work with me twice a week.

I will provide direct, multi-sensory reading, spelling, writing, and comprehension instruction based on Science of Teaching Reading, Orton-Gillingham principles, and the Wilson Reading System. Each session will include explicit, direct, cumulative, intensive, and focused instruction, including multi-sensory activities (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile) to enhance memory and learning of written language.
Skills learned:
*Word structures for automatic decoding and spelling
*Word recognition and spelling of high frequency words, including irregular words
*Vocabulary, word understanding, and word-learning skills
*Sentence-level text reading with ease, expression, and understanding
*Reading comprehension of narrative & expository text (inferences, main idea, summary, text evidence support, etc.)
*Organization of information for oral or written expression
*Proofreading skills
*Self-monitoring for word recognition accuracy and comprehension

All instruction is tailored to the specific needs of your child. Depending on the level and needs of your child, we can work on letter reversals, proper letter formation, sentence structure, phonemic awareness strengthening, advanced comprehension skills, and advanced vocabulary building.

Some examples of parts of our regular lessons:
1. Sounds quick drill - establish quick and automatic decoding of taught sounds and word elements

4. Word list reading - solidify conceptual understanding of word structure, establish automaticity, and develop vocabulary.
5. Sentence reading - practice decoding skills within context. Develop vocabulary, fluency, phrasing, and comprehension.
