In this one-time class the learner will complete a reading pre-assessment to identify areas of focus for future one-on-one tutoring sessions. After introductions the learner will show me a favorite toy, pet, or stuffed animal so that I can learn more about them! Next, using slides and flash cards I will assess the learner's current knowledge in several areas of reading skills (phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyme...). This is an assessment lesson so that the teacher can identify areas to focus on in one-on-one reading torturing sessions.
I have eight years of experience as a kindergarten and first grade classroom teacher. The last five years of my career has been focused on tutoring students one-on-one online.
Please bring a whiteboard, dry erase marker, and eraser or paper and a pencil. Please also bring a favorite thing to class to show me so that I can learn more about you.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The teacher will communicate results to parents within twenty-four hours of class.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
