Teacher expertise and credentials
Thank you for your interest in my class. I teach Python programming, computer hardware, troubleshooting, and the game of kings - Chess.
I've been teaching computer science for over twenty years, first in Palm Beach County, Florida. I'm currently employed by the Johnson City School System as a technology assistant. I also worked for four years as a planetarium operator where I taught planetary astronomy to grades 5 - 12. I've been playing chess since I was five years old. I've been teaching chess since the late 1980's. I have been a member of the United States Chess Federation and I have a tournament rating.
I believe that online schooling is the future of modern education. Since the pandemic, we have been forced to innovate. This is a great time for teachers to reach out beyond their classrooms. Hands on, and small class sizes is the philosophy that I adhere to. I think that students working together, in online environments, will allow them to more aware of the world at large. They get to meet people of different cultures and this gives them a new appreciation of our differences, while finding that we are not so different after all.
I served as a combat medic in the US Army from 1987 - 1991, and I was honorably discharged from the service in 1995. I have one son, and I've been married for 29 years to my high school nemesis. It is a great story.
