Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Learners will bring any assignment or homework they are needing help with completing for school and I will teach those concepts. I can cover any language arts topics that are outlined in state standards including, but not limited to: vocabulary, comprehension skills, literary elements, multiple genres, author's purpose and craft, and composition. To be more specific, I will teach the following topics: 1. Developing vocabulary--use print or digital resources to determine meaning, pronunciation, word origin, and part of speech 2. Developing fluency--help the child develop skills to increase grade-level reading 3. Discuss comprehension--establish purpose for texts, generate questions before, after, and during reading, evaluate details and determining key ideas, and making inferences in the text 4. Recognize literacy elements--analyze all aspects of plot elements, setting, foreshadowing and suspense, and infer themes across multiple genres 5. Identify the author' purpose and craft--analyze the author's use of print and graphic features, analyze how the author's use of language contributes to mood, voice, and tone, and explain the purpose of rhetorical devices. 6. Compose text in multiple genres--develop drafts, make revisions, and edit writing If I know the topic before our session begins, I will bring a short, fun activity to do that will give the learner a chance to practice a skill. Tutoring sessions will be structured around the best way to teach the learner. My teaching strategy and how I teach will be different for each learner. In addition, some topics might be more hands-on approach, while other topics would be better taught using a lecture style. My target audience are students struggling with a homework assignment or a concept and need a different approach or one-on-one help outside of their class time.

Supply List
For the first session, the learner should bring a topic, writing prompt, or reading comprehension questions to the session.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Central Missouri
I taught my twins and children in public schools how to read, write, and other language arts skills. I have taught in multiple states and am aware of the state standards that schools require in different grades. My professional experience teaching before having my own children and bachelor's degree in education qualifies me to teach language arts skills in language arts grades K-6th. My background with homeschooling my twins, who are now doing 7th grade work, and other homeschool students has allowed me to practice reading comprehension and writing skills on a daily basis and apply them to my teaching strategies.
