Once Upon a Time... Dance and Theatre Camp

In this 9 section course we will learn about 9 different fairy tales!

1. Little Red Riding Hood
2. 3 Little Pigs
3. Goldilocks and the 3 Bears
4. Three Billy Goats Gruff 
5. The Ugly Duckling  
6. The Little Mermaid 
7. Pinocchio 
8. 3 Little Kittens  
9. Rapunzel

We’ll discuss the characters and lessons learned in each Fairy Tale while exercising our acting skills and exploring physical movement through dance and choreography. 

After our greetings and daily introductions, we will begin class with a discussion of the week’s fairy tale. Each class of the 9 weeks will focus on one story. We will  have an open talk session of the story including a brief synopsis of the fairy tale along with some guided questions. We will then review the characters, themes and lessons learned in the story. How do these apply to our daily lives? We will then take some time to warm up our bodies to act and dance. We will act and dance using the themes of each Fairy Tale as our guide each week. Students will learn dance and theatre terminology as well as how to execute proper dance steps and use appropriate acting techniques. 

Each class will end with a brief art activity which will be available for the students to continue working on after class if they are so inclined. As always, my energetic teaching style will have the students smiling and moving the entire class period. We will always play games from simple show and tell to others more complex like scavenger hunts, name games, charades, and other acting or physical movement exercises. The end of class will always consist of a review of the material, and a brief goodbye song. This jam packed camp will be a great dance and theatre experience for every student!
