Class Experience

Students will:
Demonstrate an understanding of standard-specific poetry elements and vocabulary
Demonstrate an understanding of standard-specific writing strategies and apply them to poetry writing
Demonstrate an understanding of standard-specific speaking strategies and apply to oral poetry presentations
Demonstrate an ability to respond, analyze and think critically about poetry
As a student in grade school, I loved writing. I loved it so much that I have already written four books that can be found on Amazon, and have another dozen or so stories in my head waiting to be thrown down on paper. I have been able to use my love for writing to prepare speeches, sermons, and to perform my daily activities at work writing formal documents. I have written a number of poems and love the freedom the art allows. I have also entered and won poetry contests growing up and am more than happy to share with the class the poems I have written.
During the class, students will have time set aside for learning the elements and types of poetry, as well as time set aside for the writing of poems within class. Any unfinished assignment will be considered homework.

Students will also be assigned the writing of 2 poems outside of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessment will be via verbal and written feedback following each assignment.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All needed poetry for class review will be provided by the teacher to the class.
