Class Experience

This one-on-one session allows the student to practice solving word problems using the addition and subtraction of time and money.
Help Bruce and Kate calculate the cost of ingredients and time as they try to surprise their dad with cookies! This short story includes word problems about the addition and subtraction of U.S. dollars as well as time. Students will need to use information from within the reading to deduce answers (with my help, as needed!). There may be a couple non-math questions asked throughout the reading as well.

Students should have at least some previous knowledge of counting money and telling time. If they are comfortable enough with the text, I invite students to read some of the word problems they'll be solving. I use PowerPoint slides to share the content.

The math will generally be of this nature within the story: They can spend $20 total. The eggs cost $2.00 and the butter is $3.50. How much do they have left to spend? They left the store at 3:05PM. The drive usually takes 8 minutes, but it took 6 minutes longer today. What time will they get home?

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with specific schedule requests! Many of my one-on-ones are scheduled by parent requests.

I also offer this in a class size of 1-4 students.
