Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Learners are not expected to “master” any skills during this summer review course. Many of these skills they should already possess and there will be some skills that may be new to them. Each week we will focus on a set of skills highlighted in the class description. Learners will be able to achieve these goals with or without my assistance: 1. Count and identify numbers up to 20 2. Add and subtract numbers up to 20 3. Tell time to the hour 4. Compare objects relative to size, location, position, color, weight, measurement 5. Identify solid and flat shapes; draw basic flat shapes 6. Skip count by 5s and 10s 7. Identify US Coins and value 8. Identify upper and lowercase letter sounds and names 9. Write upper and lowercase letters 10. Blend CVC words and some basic digraphs 11. Identify short vowels and long vowels 12. Identify syllables in a word 13. Identify rhyming words 14. Identify some pre-primer and primer sight words 15. Identify parts of a book, main idea and setting of a story 16. Recall story events and retell short stories 17. Speaking in full, complete sentences 18. Identify the basics of a simple sentence 19. and more! Please remember that every child is at a different level academically and developmentally. My goal with this course is to prevent the “summer slide” so that your child is ready to learn when school resumes in the fall. However, your child’s progress is also dependent upon the amount of time spent at home, outside of class, working on these skills. Children thrive with consistency; thus, I encourage you to be consistent in having your child practice at least 5 days a week, 20-30 minutes a day outside of class time.
I will provide printable worksheet activities that correspond to each class session. I will also provide printable fluency charts and flashcards that can reviewed daily. Lastly, I will provide sight word curriculum worksheets that your learner should complete daily to help master the 92, Dolch sight words they should know when entering 1st grade. I recommend learners spend 20-30 minutes practicing skills daily throughout the summer to prevent the summer slide!
Learners should bring a dry-erase whiteboard and dry erase marker for easy and quick use during class time. Plus, they’re way more fun than pencil and paper! To print these materials, you will need a printer with at least B/W ink. I recommend learners spend 20-30 minutes practicing skills daily throughout the summer to prevent the summer slide!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
