A strong sentence is the start to a great story. Flash Fiction writing helps novice writers focus in on the importance of storytelling using concise words and a clear plot. By limiting story telling to a single sentence or a few sentences, writers must think critically and creatively to tell a compelling story,

Students should have prior knowledge of the four basic sentence structures (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex). This class serves as reinforcement and practice of these sentences in a fun and creative way.

** Students should be able to type sentences independently to fully participate in the class.

Pre-class:
Teacher will post a grammar point, theme or vocabulary that students can use in the class. This is a prompt to help students who might need guidance in writing flash fiction.

I am passionate about teaching appreciation of our world's cultures, societies, and people in a fun and engaging way that will spark a lifelong curiosity about our global community and a desire to be active and productive community members. I would like to work with learners from 6 to 18 years old. I have a degree in Sociology from UCLA, visited more than 30 countries, and lived/taught in five countries. I love to explore our global community from teas to art to traditional clothing.

Since 2005, I have taught English as a foreign language. I have taught in Asia, Central America, South America and North America. I have taught all age levels from young learners to middle school students to college students. For the past five years, I have been teaching English online to very young learners in China.

I believe learning should be fun, interactive and relevant to students' lives. Students should be inspired and encouraged to be active learners and full participants in developing their knowledge of the world.

On a personal note, I have two big dreams that I'm pursuing now. The first is to live in London for a year as a writer. Because of the Covid pandemic, I am not sure when this will happen. The second is to publish The Next Great American Novel. (I have a Master's degree in Nonfiction Writing from USC.)
