Students will learn basic signs for house pets and farm animals in American Sign Language (ASL). They will begin by learning vocabulary signs for pets in our homes and possible in home pets. Then they will be introduced to signs for farm animals. Next, the learners will focus on signs to describe animals, such as size and color. Once the vocabulary is complete, each learner will describe in sign language what animals they have in their home and/or on their family farm. Finally, the students will practice by guessing the animal described by the teacher. The lesson will be structured beginning with teacher modeling. Then students will practice as a group with guidance from the teacher. We will conclude with students independently describing pictures of animals and telling about the animals they have in their homes or on their family farm. 2-5 minutes: Introductions 10-20 mins: Pets in homes and farm animals 10-20 mins: Student pets in home/animals on farm 10-15 mins: Guess the animal This is an introductory, interactive class.
