Class Experience

In this course, we will exercise our imaginations! We will discuss what we know or think about the magical world Unicorns. What do they eat, where do they live, what do they look like, etc. Students are encouraged to wear anything unicorn related and show us any unicorn toys they have, so we can "ooh and ahh" over them together.

Students will then follow step by step directions to draw a unicorn using oil pastels. We will finish it off with watercolor paint, to see the magic of the watercolor resist technique.

I will interact with each student to check their art, answer their questions and hear their ideas. If time allows, each student can share their art with each other and offer positive feedback.

There is no experience required-just a willingness to have fun!

Learning Goals

Brainstorming/mindmapping- we will work together to create a mind-map to organize our ideas about unicorns.

Drawing- Students will be following directions to use simple line types and shapes to create a unicorn. Students will practice their hand-eye coordination.

Painting-practice using watercolor paints with the basic watercolor procedures, like cleaning the paintbrush between colors and how much water to use.

Hello, everyone! My name is Jen. My passion is art! I am a certified visual art teacher (for all grades) and a certified multiple subjects teacher (elementary level) and have been teaching art for 15 years. I primarily teach painting and drawing. My favorite thing is to see a student have fun, gain confidence and learn something in my classes! In my classes, I break steps down to make art easy and enjoyable. I also teach ESL classes both online and in person. I love animals and nature. A lot of my own personal art is inspired by nature. I have 3 fabulous kitties at home!
