Class Experience

Some children are afraid of making a mistake. It can prevent them from trying new things or cause them to become very upset. It is important for them to understand that all people make mistakes, in fact, that is one way we learn. This class will show students how to handle making a mistake and let them practice their responses. The way a student responds to his/her mistakes can enhance or detract from learning. Fear of making mistakes can be linked to self-worth. Some children feel the need to be perfect and see mistakes as failure. This class will emphasize that mistakes help us learn and how to act appropriately after a mistake is made. The class will be interactive and involve activities, a game and some discussion. The student does not need any previous knowledge or experience. #superstar

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a masters degree in education/school counseling. I have been in education for over 30 years working at all levels. I started in middle school which I loved but then was asked to go to various elementary schools. I was a little skeptical but then found I loved that level also. Finally I was asked to start some programs at the high schools. Would I be able to enjoy and have great rapport with them? Yes, loved that level too, I just love working with kids of all ages! I want students to be successful learners. Research has established that social and emotional (SEL) skills play an important role in having success in school and in life. It has even been shown that students with good SEL skills score better on tests. It is my passion and mission to help students become healthy learners and that will be the goal of the classes I teach.
I like to be outside gardening, hiking, and playing with my grandkids. I look forward to many happy and rewarding experiences with my future students.
