Use chemistry to create two kinds of festive holiday ornaments!

Class Experience

In this class, we will use chemistry and creativity to make two different holiday decorations that you can hang on your chemistree, in your windows, or anywhere that needs a festive decoration. 

In class 1, we will learn about solubility and crystals before making a sparkling crystal ornament. 
In class 2, we will learn about chromatography before using what we've learned to make colorful bulbs or snowflakes.

I am a certified chemistry teacher (grades 7-12) with 6.5 years of experience in the classroom. I have also taught freshman college chemistry. From these experiences, I have worked with a lot of different types of learners at various stages of interest and motivation- from high school students simply taking the class as a requirement to college freshmen chemistry majors passionate about the course with never ending questions. I can tailor my teaching style to fit the learner, and I do what I can to make it approachable by anyone.

Handouts with written instructions for each ornament will be provided. Students will need some simple supplies- a list will be provided upon enrollment.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Learners may need help making the borax solution for Week 1.
