"Off the Hook" Crochet Class: Crochet Succulent!

Students will be taught how to crochet an adorable cactus using front post double crochet, magic rings, and crochet the round techniques. Students will also be taught how to create a rustic looking pot out of a mason jar. Teacher, Melanie Hays, will demonstrate each stitch along with her students with an encouraging, engaging teaching style. Learners will be able to interact with the teacher as the class goes along. Crochet experience is required for this class. The class is taught in two 50 minute sessions.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to front post double crochet, crochet in the round using using a magic ring technique, work with a stitch marker, join ends of a project together using a tapestry needle, and create a rustic look on a mason jar.

5 mm crochet hook I small ball (2 to 3 oz) of green yarn (acrylic) I small ball of brown yarn (2 to 3 oz) (acrylic) Small amount of fiber fill stuffing (large handful) Tacky glue or a glue gun 2 oz bottle of acrylic paint for mason jar (gray or color of your choice) 4 oz mason jar Small amount of sand paper Scissors Stitch marker or bobby pin Yarn or tapestry needle Small piece of sandpaper

Melanie Hays has taught crochet to young people for the past 7 years. She enjoys finding projects that students will be excited about and teaching them crochet basics at the same time. Melanie has her Master's degree in education and has taught crochet courses to tweens and teens for the past 8 years.
