What's included

40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students begin poems that pay tribute to a specific person, thing, or event they appreciate. We share examples and details of what poetic devices are common in this form of poetry before students write their own odes. Students have time to share at the end of class if they wish. This class encourages writers to * Develop communication skills (as they thank or recognize a specific topic they love) * Play with words, hyperbole, repetition, description, comparison, and tone * Focus on a specific idea in their writing This class is about creating poetry that grows the writer through a specific focus. Inspired by what matters to them, students stretch their imagination and formulate poems using the ode as their guide. It's all about describing why you love what you love, offering compliments and comparison, a sprinkle of praise, and the chance to write a funny or serious piece of poetry. Your favorite person, thing, or event is waiting for you to write an ode to recognize it- tap in to this wonderful type of poetry that nurtures tone and wordplay. All levels welcome to this enthusiastic creative writing class.
