In this episode the Octonauts are in the swamp to rescue animals from the wildfire. One of the most notable animals is the Burmese Python. In this class we will start with a short presentation and discussion on the pythons. We will then move on to create a 3-D paper python. The second half of the class will start with a discussion of wildfires, how controlled wildfires are sometimes beneficial to ecosystems, and what it is like to be a firefighter. We will finish the class with a simple...
Students will improve their understanding of pythons (zoology) and wildfires (ecosystem services and fire safety)
3 pieces of paper (can be colored - I suggest green) scissors Crayons/Markers 3 birthday candles Some play dough to hold the candles in place A small spray bottle of water A glass/cup and, of course, matches
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents will need to be present for this course due to scissors use and the fire experiment. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about safety with matches and how to prevent fires.
