US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
I enjoy teaching with visuals and activities that students can do with the teacher. We will begin with a discussion, then a video, and move on to craft time. Supplies must be purchased prior to the class each week. Day 1 What inhabits seashells? How can you tell how old a mussel, oyster, and clam are by looking at their shells? Students will learn basic shell structures. They will identify four different shells using a shell guide and a worksheet. Then we'll play the "Name that shell" game! Day 2 Students will learn the different zones in the Ocean and what creatures live in them. Students will recreate the waves of the sea in a bottle. Day 3 What are the five oceans? What is ocean water made of? What is salinity? Egg Lab Day 4 What's a jellyfish made of? Why do they sting you? How can you stop the stinging? What other sea creatures are related to them? Let's recreate a jellyfish in a jar!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the five oceans, why are they salty, and what creatures live in them.

Parental Guidance
I suggest a parent be closeby because children may have difficulty cutting or tying things. Also, closing jars tightly may be an issue.
I highly recommend spreading a towel over the surface if needed to prevent spills.

Texas Teaching Certificate in Science
I love teaching oceanography! I have a wide collection of specimens and shells. Having been a Biology teacher for thirty-five years has allowed me to teach students about ocean life. Every summer, I offer Oceanography summer camps for kids. I now want to offer this same experience on Outschool.
