Description

Class Experience

Students will familiarize themselves with the different oceanic life zones. They will learn the anatomy of the squid and the perch. Plus, how does a swim bladder work in a fish?
I love teaching oceanography! I have a wide collection of specimens and shells. Having been a Biology teacher for thirty-five years has allowed me to teach students about ocean life. Every summer, I offer Oceanography summer camps for kids. I now want to offer this same experience on Outschool.
Students will have the option to label and color the parts of the squid and fish using worksheets.
 6 files available upon enrollment
My lessons are on google docs. (I do not share these documents but there is a videotape recording for students to review if they prefer.) Lesson 1 Materials: print ocean life zone template, one sheet of blue paper, scissors and a glue stick. https://cdn.filestackcontent.com/14TIB6WRymZItV6Ll9rg Lesson 2 (Optional) Purchase a whole fresh squid from your seafood dept at your local grocery store. A student could follow along with the teacher if they want. Unfortunately, they usually sell by the 4lb. box. You could cook fried calamari with the rest!!! :) Lesson 3 Print Perch Coloring Sheet Lesson 4 This is an optional lab the student can do along with the instructor. (Materials: 2 toilet paper rolls, pencil, permanent marker, a clear bowl, 4 balloons, small funnel, and any kind of cooking oil.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The online multiple-choice quiz will be provided at the end of the course upon completion.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
WARNING: I will be showing dissected and preserved animals. If your child is sensitive to this, I suggest you not enroll them.

Parents, please help your child print the information needed for these classes. If you opt to do the labs along with the instructor, please have them ready to use prior to class.
