US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Students will learn about the ocean and animals in the Phylum Arthropoda and Chordata. Students will do a characteristic comparison of various sea animals. The animals we will study are shrimp, crayfish, and sharks. They will compare the shrimp and crayfish and how they have similar and different anatomical parts. We begin the class with a short lecture, then a related YouTube video that will be screen-shared, and then we will do the lab. Students will follow along with the instructor by coloring various parts of the animal’s diagram before Teacher Pat shows the animal dissection through video. This will achieve the required lab time for any Science course. We will orally review through discussion (no breakout rooms), what we learn at the end of each lesson, and what they found interesting. *Please note that I prefer students to have their videos on during class time and keep chatroom conversation to a minimum. WARNING: I will be showing dissected and preserved animals via video. If your child is sensitive to this material, you may choose to opt out.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the anatomy of the shrimp, crayfish, bony fish and shark through handouts, coloring sheets, videos and demonstrations.

Texas Teaching Certificate in Science
I love teaching oceanography! I have a wide collection of specimens and shells. Having been a Biology teacher for thirty-five years has allowed me to teach students about ocean life. Every summer, I offer Oceanography summer camps for kids. I now want to offer this same experience on Outschool.
