Embark on a journey that dives deep into the fascinating world of oceanography. This interactive and engaging class is specially designed for middle school students to explore various aspects of the oceans. Students will explore the different zones of the ocean and learn about its currents and tides. They will investigate the seafloor to discover its astonishing features and discuss the impact of human activities on the ocean. "Ocean Odyssey" is a hands-on exploration that meets twice a week for 5 weeks. Through a blend of interactive discussion, projects, and experiments, students will not only gain knowledge, but also develop a profound appreciation for the oceans that cover our planet. Day 1: Layers of the Ocean Delve into different zones, studying the vibrant life forms that call each zone home Day 2: Ocean Circulation What is it and why is it important? Day 3: Ocean Currents and Tides Learn about the intricate pathways of ocean currents, understanding their impact Day 4: Characteristics of the Seafloor Explore the different features of the seafloor Day 5: Ocean Ridges Discover and understand how ocean ridges are created and the ecosystem around them Day 6: Ocean Trenches Explore the ocean trenches, discovering what lives there and what it is like Day 7: Coral Reefs Dive into the vibrant ecosystems of coral reefs, learning about their significance and the delicate balance they maintain Day 8: Volcanic Islands Explore volcanic islands and learn how they were created over many years Day 9: Tsunamis Uncover the science behind tsunamis, exploring their causes and impact Day 10: Ocean Pollution Discuss the critical issue of ocean pollution and ways we can stop it Join us on this extraordinary "Ocean Odyssey" – where learning is an adventure, and every discovery brings us closer to understanding the vast, enchanting world beneath the waves.
