Class Experience

Bring your stuffed animal along for our adventure as we get ready to explore the ocean below us. In this one-time class, learners will learn what tools are required to scuba dive. Have you ever snorkeled before? What is the difference between snorkeling and scuba diving? No prior knowledge is required, as we will discuss all the parts of a diver's equipment together. We will learn how to dress for scuba diving, how to breathe under water, and how the different tools work. We will also discuss what can be done if problems arise when diving, such as your mask or breathing device filling with water. Lastly, we will take a look at some underwater creatures that scuba divers often see. We will watch short clips of real animals in the ocean as we briefly ask and answer questions about them. This class is perfect for preschool age children or upcoming Kindergarten students.
My classroom is welcoming, interactive and fun. I encourage every learner to participate and we all have a blast while learning. We will use slides to guide our lesson. These slides will include photos of real divers with equipment, diagrams to explain, and short videos of animals we might see. Along the way, learners will be invited to act out putting on their scuba gear, bringing their stuffed animal friend with them, going down into the ocean and taking a look around. Learners can also share personal connections and ask questions to deepen understanding.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the names of scuba divers' tools and equipment and what purpose they serve. Students will also recognize ocean animals that divers often see.

Hi! My name is Ms. Jess. I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. My passions include teaching young learners about marine science, reading and math. I live where it's always warm so I am passionate about the ocean and the animals that live in it.

I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a bachelor's degree in Spanish. I am a K-6 certified teacher and have worked in the public school system for 9 years, and worked for 1 year in a private school setting. I have my ESOL (English Speakers of another Language) endorsement and have almost completed my reading endorsement. I have taught 1st grade, pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten. Currently, I am a reading interventionist for grades K-4! Just before accepting this position, I taught Kindergarten for 7 years. I have worked with many students who have an IEP and many students whose native language is something other than English. My year teaching pre-kindergarten was in a private school and I was fortunate to create the curriculum. I did this by focusing on common core and state standards, while also considering what is expected of incoming Kindergarteners.

My classroom is a warm and welcoming place where young learners thrive and time flies because we are having so much fun! I can't wait to meet you!
