Ocean Animals Art and Poetry: Drawing, Zoology, & Writing STEAM Class
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner - Intermediate Level
* STEAM is an educational approach that incorporates the arts into the more familiar STEM model, which includes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In each session of this multi-day class, students will learn facts about an ocean animal and then write a poem OR create a piece of art about the creature of the day. This 50-minute class will involve a Google Slide presentation that contains interesting information that will inspire whole group discussions, laughter, friendship,...
Students will learn interesting facts about each animal like what it eats, who its predators are, and what its family life is like. Students will use their creativity to write acrostic, word bowl, and “Who Am I” style poems using facts about ocean animals. Students will use basic art supplies and simple techniques to draw a blue-ringed octopus, Portuguese Man-of-War, and two stingrays swimming in the sea. Individual creativity is encouraged. Students will have the opportunity to share their writing and art with each other at the end of class. ***If your student needs accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure they have the best possible class experience.***
I was a public school classroom teacher (kindergarten-4th grade and gifted education) for over thirty years and hold a master's degree in Integrating the Arts Into the Curriculum. This STEAM class integrates science, art, and poetry. When my children were young I owned a small tutoring business and specialized in kindergarten through third-grade small group enrichment, literacy interventions, summer camps, and the arts. Now that I'm a teacher on the Outschool platform, I enjoy designing and teaching classes that integrate science and the arts. My teaching style is positive, low-key, and calm and I try my best to make sure all of my students get whatever they need in order to be successful. I strive to instill confidence in my learners while they have fun learning about animals.
