Nutty Nutcracker: A Week-Long Dance Adventure Into the Land of Sweets Ages 8-12
Ms. Anne, M.A. and M.A. in Ed.
We will explore adaptions of the second act of the famous holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, in this week-long dance camp.
Class will begin with a short warm-up and introduction/review of age-appropriate beginning classical ballet technique. This will be followed by a stretch, then we will begin our adventure into the Land of Sweets! We will discuss the story of the famous story ballet of The Nutcracker. Each day, we will learn a different divertissement (dance). We will learn Spanish (Chocolate), Chinese (Tea), Russian (Candy Canes), Mirliton (Pastry), and Mother Ginger's BonBons. While dancers will learn...
Dancers will gain a greater understanding of one of the world's favorite story ballets.
With over 30 years of dance experience, Ms. Anne brings a depth of knowledge of many different genres of dance. Ms. Anne performed professionally in a multi-disciplinary dance company. She has taught ballroom, tap, jazz, and theatre, in addition to classical and contemporary ballet. Her students have won awards with her choreography at many prestigious dance competitions, including Youth America Grand Prix. Some of Ms. Anne's graduate research interests included studying the development of artistry in dancers and using artistic talents to develop a business model.
Please come to class from a safe space clear of any obstacles. It is best to not take class on carpet, as toes may stick and injury may occur even when wearing socks or ballet shoes. Ideally, dancers will attend class from an area with a hard floor and ballet shoes so as to limit injury. Hard floors with bare feet may also be acceptable, but dancers will need to exercise care to prevent injury. Class attire should be form-fitting so that the teacher can correct placement, but clothing should not restrict movement. Leggings and a tank top work well if you don't feel ready to purchase dance attire! If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask!
As ballet is a physical activity in addition to an art, adults should be nearby to supervise class completion in a safe area. While the instructor will take all reasonable measures to explain how to safely execute each exercise, this is an online course and it will require some adult supervision to minimize risk to the dancer.
