In this 1 week course, students will learn about the food groups, the importance of each one, and how to incorporate them into a healthy diet.

Class Experience

Students will meet each week to discuss the different food groups and their benefits. Each meeting will focus on a different food group or topic related to our healthy plate. 

Meeting 1: Fruits and Vegetables: We will discuss different foods in each food group. We will also discuss why these groups are important, and why we need to eat them. We will work through several activities together, and discuss how to incorporate more vegetables into our meals. 
Meeting 2: Grains and Dairy: We will review fruits and vegetables from Meeting 1 by playing a sorting game.  We will discuss the different foods in the two groups: grains and dairy. We will also discuss how to incorporate these into different meals of the day. 
Meeting 3: Meat and Rainbow Foods: We will review our previous material by playing a game together. We will then discuss meats, and what it means for a food to be a "rainbow" food. Rainbow foods can be made up of many different food groups. 
Meeting 4: Creating a Healthy plate using all 5 food groups We will review the 5 food groups. We will also hear about the colorful MyPlate, see how we can make healthy choices during our meals each day. 

We will use a variety of methods to learn including: printable sheets, discussion, videos, and games.

Supply List
Printable pages will be provided for each lesson. I would recommend printing them all out, and putting them together in a simple stapled booklet for easy organization.
