Health and Nutrition - Making Great Choices With Food
Class experience
Students will embark on a journey that will begin with a period of self-reflection of what foods they love and hate. We will then break these foods down by their macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins), vitamins, minerals and ingredient lists. After completing this breakdown in week 1, we will start to make choices and find healthy, tasty alternatives. Students will be able to analyze a food label and determine if the nutrients and ingredients present are beneficial or harmful to their bodies. Students will be able to make choices about healthy and unhealthy food options. Students will be able to educate friends and family members about the exciting world of nutrition.
My personal experience is very unique and diverse in the realm of health, fitness and science. I am a current High School health, physical education, science and math teacher. I am currently completing my final course of my Master's in Secondary Education (Graduation - May 2020); emphasis in health, fitness and science. I received my B.S. in Athletic Training from Whitworth University. I completed 1,250 clinical hours in physical therapy clinics, collegiate, semi-professional and high school athletic training rooms, emergency rooms and urgent cares. I am a former collegiate football player who constantly sought the balance between healthy eating and proper caloric intake. I am a former Certified Athletic Trainer I am a former group fitness instructor and personal trainer.
Homework Offered
Students will compete a 3 day food log that shows the foods that they choose to eat.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners are progressed through honest self-reflection, verbal and written analysis of food labels and a conclusive one day meal plan.Grades Offered
Students will be provided with a food and drink log recording sheet and a meal plan recording sheet.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
