Nutrition and Health Habits for Kids

In this 5-week health and wellness course, students will work on making healthy food choices, moving throughout the day, getting plenty of sleep, and more. This class is a wonderful supplement to your nutrition unit!

What's included

5 live meetings
2 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Each week I will give the kids a challenge to complete like eating green vegetables, etc. Throughout the week there will also be coloring pages and worksheets to complete. Students also have the opportunity to make their own notes and pictures to add to their journals.

Class Experience

⭐️Each weekly class will be packed with a health talk 📣, practicing movement for strength and flexibility 🤸🏼‍♂️, games 🎲, and activities as students also work on their health and nutrition journals 📖 throughout each week.  Participants will be able to log their daily health habits, add worksheets, coloring sheets, and recipes to their journals, and make their own notes about their health.  These are the scheduled activities for each week:

🗓 Week 1:

1️⃣  Explain Health Journals 📗and how to use them.  
Some examples of what students will keep track of: 
*moving throughout the day 🤾🏾‍♀️
*getting enough sleep 😴
*eating vegetables 🥦🥕
*eating fruits 🍓🍐
*trying new foods 🥗🥥
*eating protein 🍤🍖
*retrying a food I don’t like 🍠🥬
*being thankful 👏🏽🤝

2️⃣ Health Talk:  The Importance of Movement to Our Bodies 🏃🏾‍♀️⛹🏻‍♂️🧘🏻‍♀️

3️⃣ Movement Minute:  Spend a minute learning a new movement that we can do several times per day to keep our bodies strong, flexible, and active. 🧘🏻‍♀️🏊🏿🤸🏿‍♀️

4️⃣ Learn about an unusual fruit. 🥭

5️⃣ Show & Tell – Bring a picture of OR a real fruit that is your favorite to share with everyone. 🍒🍌

7️⃣ Give Challenge for Week 1: Drink water for beverage on three different days.  💦💦

8️⃣ Homework:  Decorate journal cover, fill in health tracker,  fill in rainbow page, complete Challenge worksheet ✔️✔️


🗓 Week 2:

1️⃣  Students share their journal with the class, talk about their success with the previous challenge, go over homework, and share any coloring pages they'd like to.  🎉🎉

2️⃣  Health Talk:  The Importance of Protein  🥩🍗🍖

3️⃣  Movement Minute:  moving as we focus on different muscles and body parts 🤸🏿‍♀️🏋🏽🧘🏻

4️⃣  Learn about an unusual vegetable. 🍆🥬

5️⃣  Show & Tell:  Bring your favorite vegetable and tell how you like to prepare it.  🥕🥦

6️⃣  Give Challenge for Week 2:  Eat 4 different types of protein. 🥩🥓🍖🧆 

7️⃣  Homework:  Fill in health tracker,  fill in rainbow page, complete Challenge worksheet, complete dinner plate worksheet ✔️✔️📖


🗓 Week 3:

1️⃣  Students share their journal with the class, talk about their success with the previous challenge, go over homework, and share any coloring pages they'd like to. 🎉🎉

2️⃣  Health Talk:  Why Is Sleep So Important? 🛌🧸

3️⃣  Movement Minute:  moving as we focus on different muscles and body parts 🪂🏂

4️⃣  Healthy Habits Bingo Game 🎲🎊

5️⃣  Give Challenge for Week 3:  Try a new fruit and nut.  🍍🥥 

6️⃣  Homework:  Fill in health tracker,  fill in rainbow page, complete Challenge worksheet, color the sleep worksheet and answer the questions ✔️✔️📘


🗓 Week 4:

1️⃣  Students share their journal with the class, talk about their success with the previous challenge, go over homework, and share any coloring pages they'd like to. 🎉🎉

2️⃣  Health Talk:  Your Amazing Liver 🦸🏻‍♂️💪

3️⃣  Movement Minute:  moving as we focus on different muscles and body parts 🏄🏽‍♀️🏊🏿

4️⃣  Share green smoothie recipe 🍓🍓

5️⃣  Find That Food game 🍏🍉🍅🥒🍍

6️⃣  Give Challenge for Week 4: Eat a green vegetable on 5 different days.🥬🥒🥦🥬🥒

7️⃣  Homework:  Fill in health tracker,  fill in rainbow page, complete Challenge worksheet, color the digestive tract  worksheet, add smoothie recipe to journal 🎊🎊🎊🎊


Week 5:

1️⃣  Students share their journal with the class, talk about their success with the previous day's challenge, go over homework, and share any coloring pages they'd like to. 🎉🎉

2️⃣  Health Talk:  The Importance of Getting Fiber in Your Diet 🥕🍓🥬🥦🍎

3️⃣  Movement Minute:  moving as we focus on different muscles and body parts 🚴🏼‍♀️🚣🏼‍♂️🤽🏿‍♂️

4️⃣  Nutrition Quiz Game (to review all that we've learned) 🏅🏅

5️⃣  Bonus Challenge:  Share a nutrition fact you've learned with someone else.  Keep up all your healthy habits!  📣📣📣

🟣 I teach my classes with colorful slides that I create myself.  I like to engage the kids in the conversation🗣 and have them share as much as possible.  This particular course allows for even more time for kids to share their progress and successes as they learn to make excellent health choices.  At the end of the course, your child will have a treasure book 📕 of health and nutrition information along with a sense of accomplishment 🏆 from what they have learned and the habits they have formed.

Supply List
Students will need a notebook of some kind for this class.  I recommend a three-ring binder or folder with brads so that papers can be inserted and removed as needed.  I'll supply links for journal pages, worksheets, and coloring pages.  Students may want to use notebook paper to add their own material to their journals. Pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, and crayons can all be used to enhance the student's notebook.

In November of 2019, I began my studies and received my health coach certification from the Primal Health Coach Institute in the spring of 2020.  I have also run several nutrition groups on social media and have helped friends and family members to clean up their diets and improve their health.
