Beginner Level
In this class, students will be introduced to ballet technique with a ballet warm up each class. Then, students will review pedestrian and dance locomotor movements and learn a ballet center combination. Last, they will be introduced to the Nutcracker Ballet and use it to create their own Nutcracker inspired dances.
Learning Goals
New York City Blueprint Standards in Dance: Demonstrate a variety of extensions and flexions, limb rotations, stretches, swings, bends and twists.

4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
The Nutcracker Introduction
Learning the basics of ballet through movement, reviewing locomotor movements, and being introduced to the story of the Nutcracker.

Lesson 2:
The Nutcracker Improvisation
Reviewing the basics of ballet, locomotor movement, and learning a piece of a short ballet combination. Review the story of the Nutcracker.

Lesson 3:
The Nutcracker Ballet
Students will begin learn a short ballet phrase inspired by the Nutcracker ballet (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy).

Lesson 4:
The Nutcracker Bow
Students will review all ballet terms, and ballet choreography, and recall elements of the Nutcracker Ballet.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Please be sure dancing space is throughly swept/vacuumed, and all large obstacles are out of the way. Also, please be sure you child's body is in full view of the camera and the camera angle is set correctly.
Supply List
Recommended: 1.) Long hair in a ponytail or bun 2.) Leotard and ballet skirt/tutu (Can also wear your favorite ballet costume) 3.) Ballet Slippers/Socks If these are not accessible any close fitting attire is acceptable.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am a licensed New York City Public Middle School Dance Educator, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Hunter College and a Master of Science Degree in Dance Education from NYU. I love to perform and choreograph. I also love helping my students choreograph.
