Class Experience

Welcome to Number Talks Club! In this ongoing class, learners will participate in a series of number talks with the goals of enhancing expressive math vocabulary and expanding strategy use.

Number Talks are discussions around a series of mental math problems. Students are shown the problem (dot cards, math problem, pattern etc.), solve it, and then share the strategy they used to solve the problem. Creativity is encouraged and all students could use a different method to explore and solve...

I highly recommend all learners have a handheld whiteboard and marker to quickly write numbers or draw pictures but it is not required. If students do not have a whiteboard, they should have plenty of paper and a crayon or marker.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
