Whether we realize it or not, a strong number sense is so important in our lives! Number sense allows us to be flexible with numbers, how to understand how numbers relate to each other, and helps us to manipulate and visualize numbers in order to use them in life! A stronger number sense leads to more confidence in all areas of math. Think of it as "number play"! In this class, we will be focusing on counting 0-10, grouping within 10, while using music and items from nature! Students will be able to briefly share the items they brought and then we will get right to counting!
Learning Goals
Students will practice their numbers sense by counting 0-10.
Students will also learn to group numbers that make 10.
Students will use their natural items in front of them as manipulatives to understand how many ways they can make 10!

Supply List
Students will need to collect a minimum of 10 items from nature to bring to class! The items can be 10 different items or 10 items that are the same (ex: 5 rocks and 5 flower petals, or 10 leaves). These items can be: leaves, rocks, small sticks, flower petals, etc. Please make sure your child has 10 as we will be counting and grouping 0-10 Please also make sure the items are safe and suitable for them to be working with! I encourage the items to be able to fit in a sealed small sandwich bag (so as to be contained before and after) :)
