You’re probably here because you know that your kids can have fun learning math when the material is visual and engaging. A "Weekly Math Challenge” routine encourages students to get your kids thinking algebraically (often way before they ever step foot inside an algebra class!). Who says that learning math has to be boring? Your kids will love solving these fun emoji math. PUZZLES MIXED WITH MATH. Problem-solving places the focus on the student making sense of mathematical ideas. Also, problem-solving develops mathematical power. It gives students the tools to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve hypothetical and real-world problems. ONGOING ALGEBRAIC CHALLENGE The progression of this course will be contingent upon student ages and level of mathematical reasoning. Each week the material will become more advanced. The course consists of eight total levels. Kids love to make it to the next level, which can take many weeks. The schedule for the course is as follows: Level 1: Basic Level 2: Intermediate Level 3: Advanced Level 4: Multiplication & Division Focus Level 5: Fractions Focus Level 6: Decimals Focus Level 7: Negative Numbers Focus Level 8: Miscellaneous Visual Math Puzzles ****The day you choose to begin the course, regardless of which week, will be the same day each week for the remainder of the course. Learners can enroll or unenroll at any point, each class will stand alone.**** Each week will build on the previous week's material. Throughout the course, students may or may not be subjected to the following material: BASIC Includes elements of… ✓basic addition and subtraction ✓commutative property of addition ✓logical thinking ✓simple algebraic thinking ✓strategic problem solving ✓substitution ✓variables and symbolic representation INTERMEDIATE Includes elements of… ✓associative property of addition ✓intermediate algebraic thinking ✓order of operations ✓properties of zero ADVANCED Includes elements of… ✓advanced algebraic thinking ✓advanced multiplication and division ✓advanced order of operations ✓associative property of multiplication ✓commutative property of multiplication FOCUS ON MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION Includes elements of… ✓advanced multiplication and subtraction ✓advanced order of operations ✓multiplying and dividing by zero and one ✓undefined values FOCUS ON FRACTIONS Includes elements of… ✓dividing by zero and one ✓reducing fractions ✓identifying equivalent fractions ✓adding and subtracting fractions ✓multiplying and dividing fractions FOCUS ON DECIMALS Includes elements of… ✓adding and subtracting decimals ✓multiplying and dividing decimals FOCUS ON NEGATIVES Includes elements of… ✓properties of negative numbers ✓adding and subtracting negative numbers ✓multiplying and dividing negative numbers MISC. VISUAL PUZZLES Includes elements of… ✓algebraic functions with inputs and outputs ✓algebraic modeling ✓area models and hundreds charts ✓geometric representations of values ✓number sense and number webs ✓pattern recognition ✓value tables ✓visual mathematics ✓working with models, diagrams, and arrays ✓writing functions
Learning Goals
Students will be encouraged to think algebraically, during each week's lesson, to solve mathematical puzzles that will be sure to keep them engaged.
